Book Review: Hereafter by Tara Hudson
review by Camille Morales

Can there truly be love after death?

Drifting in the dark waters of a mysterious river, the only thing Amelia knows for sure is that she's dead. With no recollection of her past life-or her actual death-she's trapped alone in a nightmarish existence. All of this changes when she tries to rescue a boy, Joshua, from drowning in her river. As a ghost, she can do nothing but will him to live. Yet in an unforgettable moment of connection, she helps him survive.

Amelia and Joshua grow ever closer as they begin to uncover the strange circumstances of her death and the secrets of the dark river that held her captive for so long. But even while they struggle to keep their bond hidden from the living world, a frightening spirit named Eli is doing everything in his power to destroy their newfound happiness and drag Amelia back into the ghost world . . . forever.

Thrilling and evocative, with moments of pure pleasure, Hereafter is a sensation you won't want to miss.

Camille's Review

There are many things that make this book so awesome. The plot was very unique. I love the idea of ghosts and how they supposedly have unfinished business, and that's why they stay. This story entertained me. It made me sad for the main character, and it also made me frustrated for her. The situations she was thrown in, and how she reacted to them, made me realize that she is a great character.

The characters were amazing. I liked Joshua, Amelia, Jillian (she reminds me of my sister sometimes) and Jeremiah (Joshua's dad.) All of these characters, and even the ones you're not supposed to like, were really interesting. Ruth, Joshua's grandmother, was creepy. The point is: they all had at least one quality that made them unique. And Amelia is a really good character. She's very brave and strong, considering what has happened to her.

I thought the ending was good enough for it to be a stand-alone, but there will be a sequel. It comes out in 2012. As satisfied as I was with the ending of this book, I will be buying the sequel. I really, really liked this book. I recommend it to everyone that likes a paranormal read.

I give this book a 4.5/5 stars
