Fantasy Shows You Should Check Out

I love fantasy novels and the next best thing is a fantasy based television show. Lucky for us, TV is catching up on the movie trends and offering shows that fill our fantasy needs. Here's a list of mostly new shows that are worth your time. Let's watch them together. You can also go to my blog and comment on what you think.

Grimm Premiers October 28th NBC Network

The story centers around Portland homicide detective named Nick Burkhardt. He discovers he's descended from a long line of profilers called "Grimm's". He's meant to keep the balance between fairytale creatures and human kind. I think this show is worth a try because I've always loved the Grimm fairytales and it will be cool to see how they bring that into our everyday society. This show airs on Friday nights, and now that Smallville's gone, I need a new show.

Once Upon A Time Premiers October 23rd ABC Network

ABC has the best description of this show so I'm going to borrow it: " Emma Swan's life has been anything but a fairytale. A 28-year-old bail bondsperson, she's been taking care of herself since she was abandoned as a baby. But when Henry -the son she gave up 10 years ago-finds her, everything changes. Henry is desperate for his mom's help and thinks that Emma is actually the long, lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming . Yes, the actual Snow White and Prince Charming. Even stranger, Henry believes that Storybrooke, the sleepy New England town he calls home, is really part of a curse cast by the Evil Queen , freezing fairytale characters in the modern world with no memory of their former selves."

Well, if that doesn't get you excited, then I don't know what will.

Secret Circle Thursdays CW Network

Due to the success of Vampire Diaries, the CW and Kevin Williamson invented into another LJ Smith series called the Secret Circle. Fans of the book won't be too excited because a main character has already been killed off which changes how the books play out in a big way. Other than that, I think the series is pretty cool. The story centers around a group of teenage witches who are just discovering their powers and their family history. So far, I'm impressed so I'll definitely recommend this to anyone who's a fan of the teenage dramas, and of course, witches.

Vampire Diaries Thursdays CW Network

This show was developed by Kevin Williamson of Dawson's Creek fame and is loosely based on the bestselling series of the same name by L.J. Smith. I say loosely because characters were added and changed along with many of the storylines. It's basically about two vampire brothers in love with the same teenage girl. I enjoy it because it's very close to the vampire lore that we know and love except that it's of the teenage variety which means PG13. This show is in its third season, but I highly suggest you get the DVD's and catch up. It's worth it, I promise.
